The original of this list was begun December of 1999.  It continued for some time, then it was abandoned.  It was restarted late September of 2002.  Then it too was abandoned.  We are now in the third iteration.  The periods of abandonment are marked with elipses in brackets ([…]).  New books get added to the top of the list.
