Your mom and I went to a show that contained "Chinese acrobats". (The whole show may have been from Asia...I don't remember.) It wasn’t Cirque, but still very good. At one point in the show there were multiple performers spinning and hanging off of some tall apparatus.

At any rate, one of the tethers broke and the acrobat hit the ground and was, at the very least, knocked unconscious. The speed with which people ran on stage, grabbed the lifeless body and dragged it off stage showed that this was practiced.

There was no regard for the acrobat. No cervical collar, no backboard, no checking for possible spinal injury, only concern for the audience that might have to look at a fallen performer…very disturbing.

However…I wonder if there’s an audience for this. I know there are people who go to car races to see the crashes, football to watch the hits (decleating awards and all) and watch Survivor hoping to see the next person fall into the fire pit or some other life-threatening hazard.

Jaimee and I saw Corteo a few months ago, and it was indeed fantastic. As you said, the crowd-surfing balloon act really did steal the show. And, yes, an appreciation of the male anatomy really does add a certain something to some of the performances, although I didn't experience it to the same degree that I did with Mystere (which has an act that I consider to be the high-water mark for a couple of guys being sexy without being overtly sexual).
