This is my first time posting anywhere online about a company, but this is my GoldKit.com story and if it stops them from getting even 1 persons' business, it will be worth the typing. My experience has left me feeling angry and intimidated for far too long! I still literally feel ill when I see a Lippincott, LLC commercial. I promise to try to make this as short as possible while still getting in the relevant info.
I was diagnosed with a rare form of lower GI cancer in July of 2005 (196 hours of chemo, 7 weeks of daily radiation, 13 surgeries, menopause and a long bout with MRSA later, I am still on LTD trying to recover) and being that short-term disability was not offered by my employer, I went 6 mos. without a paycheck. In desperate need of $ to pay bills, I decided to sell 2 OUNCES of all 14K. gold to GoldKit.com. I had been saving my broken gold since I was 16 and I filled UP the bag they sent me. This was also around Jan. 2006 when gold was at an all-time high.
Several days later I recv'd a check for approx. $130 (I have all dates, names, etc. filed and will be happy to supply exact facts if needed). Now, this check came with a flyer that offered NO Customer Service # and the # offered on the commercial only allowed you to leave a message at that time, it took me many messages and phone calls to get a human who told me that I had 30 days to change my mind but that my time was almost up so I needed to make a decision. The same day, I called a couple of local pawn shops who all offered me at least double so I called back I was told "too bad" by a lady that said she was the manager.
Long story sorta short:
-The Manager I spoke to said she knew that getting to speak to a human was an issue and they were "working on it"...
-I wasn't happy with her "too bad" answer and called back to get her boss's name (she assured me he was as high up as I could get) and she replied "Lady, you are getting on my nerves"...and hung up!!!! Unbelievable? I agree, so I called back and finally she agreed to have the 'owner' call me back..
-My dumb-ass was thinking "great, being a Customer Service Supervisor myself, I understand how to resolve issues and I was sure this guy was more professional and this would be easy to resolve, right?" I was SO wrong.
-This is seriously what happened (and more, though it would take 2 days to type so I'll give you some of the highlights)...*this conversation floored me and scared me enough not to do anything at the time, mostly because fighting SS, Met-Life (that's a story for a different day) and cancer was all I could handle . When the man called me back, he wanted to know what I needed the $ for, when I told him, he said to me "yeah right, I have cancer too, Liar". He made several derogatory comments about me being female and it was ONLY after I threatened him with calling the BBB did he come up with this "solution"...I would not be getting my gold back but if I were to e-mail him a letter (I had no computer access at the time, not that I would have sent it if I had) stating how wonderful my experience with GoldKit.com was, how highly I would recommend them, he would run it by his attorneys and IF they found it satisfactory, he would then and only then mail me a check for an additional $100. I was also told that if I ever tried to do business with him again (as if), or called the BBB after that, he, and all his attorneys would "come after me guns blazing".
I have regretted not doing anything this whole time. I'm done with regrets.
-Moral? Cancer sucks and so does GoldKit.com. Thanks for letting me share.

Wow, Val, I had never thought about that. I had thought their prices similar to what one would obtain within one's own state.

I just sent some scrap gold away to Cash4Gold -- it really did belong to me :) -- and I'm waiting for the check. According to the Domestic Mail Manual of the USPS, you can buy any sort of special service to add on to a Business Reply Envelope. I made sure there was a big ball of rolled-up stiff paper in the plastic envelope to leave no doubt that it was a "parcel", and paid for Signature Confirmation on the package. I didn't know if any of the sites play "lost in the mail" games", but I didn't want them played with my gold.

Goldkit.com and thingswebuy.com are owned by the same company and have one market in which they can truly corner - stolen goods. Think about it. Most larcenies are handled in the state in which they happened and the detailed descriptions of the jewelry is not widely disseminated (They can't be because of the sheer number of reported thefts). Even if the descriptions were sent out to these companies - the person can merely damage or otherwise make the jewelry unreconizable. Theifs are not likely to take jewelry to a local jeweler or pawn shop for fear of being caught. Mailing it off to these companies may mean they'd make less on their haul but 70% of what they have no right to to begin with is better than 100% of nothing but jail.

For what it's worth - I'm sure this company would prefer to do business with legitimate individuals but I just don't see the benefit for most honest individuals. Or - I should say - I see much more benefit to the dishonest ones.
