12 kHz, but whyyyyyy?

My phone whines at 12 kHz.  All the time.  This is tinnitus-range.  Anyone else?  And have there been any reported self-inflicted deaths?

Running Linux and want to test your hearing?  Beep!  Try:

beep -l 10000 -f 12000

That freaked out my roommate (and me, when I couldn’t get it to stop). Should have read the man page first!

    Sorry, Jordon!

But at least you have good hearing.  :-)

Invite your friends who say CDs are lossy and play them a tone of 22050 Hz.  Ask them if they can hear it.  Then ask them just how fast they think a mechanical stylus can shake.  With a great D-to-A, CDs kick the collective ass of vinyl any day.
