Hey I am unfortunately experiencing the same thing. I went to my primary 1 1/2 ago and he gave me pain killers, Avelox and ciprodex for the ear infection as well as something for a mild throat infection. I don't know why he gave me the throat infection stuff though. I put the drops in for a week and now 4 days without the ciprodex the pain in my ear is returning. I am going ahead and inserting a couple of drops now hopefully things get better. I don't want this to be some really terrible thing like the one you described.

For future reference, I have had several cases of ear infections. The first one, a doctor also prescribed a liquid that had to be basically held in by gauze. I noticed the ingredients in mine ( the liquid ) and noted the exact same ingredients are found in a typical triple antibiotic ointment. Now, when i get an infection, i go to family dollar, cvs, etc. and buy this ointment for about a buck and use it. Because it is gel form it a) doesn't need to be held in with gauze and b) keeps water out of the ear fairly well while bathing. Hope this helps.
