Two items from NPR news Monday morning:
- President Clinton voiced his support for designating Election Day a national holiday. I think this is an excellent idea: by not requiring employers to give their employees time off, citizens (especially the poor) can ipso facto be denied the right to vote.
- Edward Teller turned 93. I remember being surprised, when Scientific American published their interview in October of 1999, that he was still alive. Simply from a statistical standpoint, he will likely die soon. One is left to wonder how much less the shame of our last century might have been if he had died in his crib.
